The doldrums days of winter are behind us as we prepare for spring-time fun in the Children’s Room. Celebrate the month of March with play, literacy and STEAM. Registration for all programs are underway, so don’t miss out on the action.

social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.
For ages 1 to 3, resource specialists in topics such as speech, nutrition, motor development and more will be here Wednesday mornings to discuss concerns and keep you right on track while your little one plays with you and others. Register for all 5 weeks of Parenting & Playtime beginning March 2nd with your choice of times, 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
The Play Hooray ladies are bringing Molly Mouse for the littlest ones, ages 3 to 24 months. Combine nursery rhymes with singing, dancing, & play! This program takes place for three consecutive Friday mornings beginning March 4th at 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. Click here for registration.
March 2nd is Read Across America Day. Join the movement and read with your infants, toddlers, kids and teens. For suggested book lists check here or ask a librarian.
Take up the reading challenge and pledge to read “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.” This early reading program is for any child birth to not yet in Kindergarten. Participants receive a reading log, tote bag and prizes at reading milestones. Sign-up in the children’s room. (West Hempstead Library Cardholders only).
The book club for grades 3 to 5 meet today at 7 p.m. If you love to read, sign-up in the children’s room for next month’s discussion. The club meets the first Tuesday of the month from September to June.
Pajama Storytime for all ages begins at 7 p.m. tomorrow night. No registration is needed so come on down for stories, songs & a craft. This program takes place the first Wednesday of every month all year round.
Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math
The third weekend of every month is Lego Club for grades K-5. Stop by from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday & Sunday March 19th & 20th to build with friends. No registration is needed.
Bedtime Math’s Crazy 8’s wild math club is back! Build stuff and make a mess with Miss Emily. First up is some new fun with glow-in-the dark geometry. Sessions for grades K-2 and 3-5 run for four weeks beginning Monday, March 7th. Registration is required.
Clark Botanic Gardens brings us a special pollination program on Sunday, March 13th from 3 to 4 p.m. for grades K-5. Learn about bees and butterflies, too! Each child goes home with a craft. Click here for registration.
Button art is back with “Button Canvas Art” for tweens (grades 5-8). Pick a design or make your own using buttons & sharpie markers. This program takes place Monday March 14th from 4 to 6 p.m. Register online or in the Young Adult room. ($2.00 cash registration fee will be returned upon completion of each Tween program). Children in 4th grade may come to the Young Adult desk to be put on a waiting list in the event that there is room.
