The Children’s Department now offers Playaway Launchpads! Launchpads are kid friendly tablets filled with fun and educational apps. No Internet connection is required, so they are perfect for on-the-go fun. The tablets come in a durable case to help prevent accidents & a charger so the fun can keep going & going.
To provide the best experience, the apps on each Launchpad are geared for a different age group/grade level. Each device contains different kinds of apps, such as math or reading, that focus on one particular theme. This allows the children to explore a topic in a variety of way (& also means it will keep their interest). The youngest users (grades PreK to K or ages 3 to 5) will learn letters & sounds, basic math skills & problem solving, while exploring zoo animals, transportation & more! Grades K-2 (ages 5 to 7) explore STEAM & language learning through topics such as outer space or cats. Grades 3 to 5 (ages 8 to 10) selections focus on STEAM, history, & word play. Each Launchpad circulates for 14 days. They can only be checked out by an adult (18+) West Hempstead Library Card holder. Since they are new, they are limited to a check out of 3 Launchpads per adult card.
