Our all-in-one public fax machine/copier/scanner is located in the alcove between the Children’s Room and Teen Department.

A maximum of 9 pages at a time can be faxed within the continental US; there is no international faxing.

Black and White Copy – 15¢ per copy
Color Copy – 25¢ per copy
Scanning to USB Flash Drive – 10¢ per copy

There are 12 computer located in the Adult Reference Area for use by adults and teens in 6th grade and above. In addition to full internet access, these computers offer the use of Microsoft Office software (excluding Microsoft Access) and Adobe Acrobat. Black & white or color printing is available. There is no charge to use the computers, but registration is required using any Nassau County library card OR a visitor pass. For younger patrons (with signed parental approval) the Children’s Room provides 3 public use computers available with black & white printing.

Internet and Wireless Services Policy

1. To print from our public computers log in with your Nassau County library card or with a temporary visitor pass. Once you send your job to the printer, prepay at the Circulation Desk, and then release the job at the Print Release Station (located next to the Reference Desk).

2. Wireless printing from your phone, laptop, and tablet is available using our Princh system at print.princh.com. Our printer ID is 102444; follow the instructions here.

Payments can be made directly on your device with Apple/Google Pay, etc. or pay with cash at the Circulation Desk. Enter the 4-digit code on your device’s screen on the wall tablet near the Princh printer and release your job.

Chromebooks are available for in-house use to West Hempstead Public Library cardholders 18 years and older. Borrowing privileges will be denied if there are fines or charges on the account.

Chromebooks will be available for a 4 hour loan period (renewable for 2 additional hours if no other patron requests a device). Patrons may only check out one device per day. Minimal staff assistance is available for borrowers.

Chromebooks are available on a first come, first served basis and cannot be reserved in advance. All devices must be returned one hour before closing.

The borrower is responsible for loss, theft, or damage to the Chromebook and accessories during the check-out period. Damage charges will be assessed based on the actual repair cost. The library will not accept replacement Chromebooks or accessories purchased by the borrower.

Chromebook User Policy


Notary services are offered during weekday business hours. You are advised to call ahead at 516-481-6591 ext. 12 to check for notary availability and document acceptance.

Our Notary service is supported through donations; a small donation of your choice for each notarized document is appreciated.

Guidelines:
  • The person signing the document must be present and have a photo I.D. present
  • The document must be in English
  • The document may not be signed in advance
  • The Library will not supply any witnesses

Two individual study rooms on the second floor are available on a first come, first served basis. West Hempstead patrons are given priority. They are guaranteed one hour, up to a maximum of three hours per day. West Hempstead patrons may reserve a room 24 hours in advance of usage by calling (516) 481-6591 ext. 21. Tutoring is not permitted in these rooms or anywhere on the second floor.

The entire second floor has been designated a Quiet Study Area. Patrons in this area must maintain reasonable silence. No tutoring may take place in any section of the Quiet Study Area. Groupwork and tutoring may only take place on the first floor of the library.

Nassau residents are eligible for a books-by-mail program that delivers thousands of both recorded and braille titles postage-free through the New York Public Library’s Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library.

To borrow audio or braille books from the Andrew Heiskell Library you must first register with them to confirm your eligibility. Once your application has been received and confirmed, the Andrew Heiskell Library will register you for service and send you the requested equipment.
